The Importance of Vaccinations

There has always been confusion and misunderstanding when it comes to vaccines; some are for it while others are against it. However, vaccines play an important role in the health of your family, as they can provide a plethora of benefits.  To learn more about vaccines and their benefits, we have the following info to share.

What Are Vaccines?

A vaccine or immunization is a way to build your body’s natural immunity to a disease before it attacks. This keeps you from getting it and therefore spreading it to others around you. Typically, vaccines are a weakened version of the disease germ that is then injected into your body. This is done with a shot that typically goes into your arm or leg. Your body then detects the germ that was just injected and produces antibodies to fight them off. The antibodies will stay in your body, typically for the rest of your life and when that specific disease tries to enter your body, the antibodies will fight it off right away.

What Are the Benefits of a Vaccine?

Vaccines can prevent serious illnesses and/or outbreak in your community. Vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, hepatitis and influenza are less common due to childhood vaccination. The seriousness of some diseases cannot be disregarded as some of them can be life threatening. By providing your body with a weakened “germ” of a specific type of disease, your body will recognize the bacteria or virus in the future and will be able to provide you with an immune response that prevents illness.

What Are the Benefits of the COVID-19 Vaccine?

By getting the COVID-19 vaccine, it will greatly reduce your risk of getting the infection. Once you get your first dose, like other vaccines, your body will start to produce antibodies to fight off the weakened germ. All three of the vaccines that are available in the United States are 70% effective in preventing COVID-19. Although it is true that you can still contract this disease, if everyone would get vaccinated then this would be less likely.

Vaccines play an important role in our health. Whether you are for them or against them, there is no doubt that they have benefits that can help the community overall. Do not let yourself fall ill to a disease that could have been prevented. Get vaccinated today!
